I said 2017 would bring more interiors inspiration and here we are! I got a little obsessed with flooring late last year as it’s one thing we had never changed in our new build house and the hallway carpet was rather worse for wear (a lot of it thanks to our rescue cat Herbie who started to treat it like a toilet- TMI?) Reality was as much as I adored the mix and match tile look we couldn’t afford to replace all the hallway. So we decided to do a square to mark the front ‘porch’ part of the hallway. We picked the tiles up from good ole’ EBay. They were pretty reasonable, and because we have no skills we hired a friends dad (who does this kind of thing!) to come lay them for us.

Before the tiles the hallway was pretty bland, with just the standard white Ikea shoe unit for ‘everyday shoes’ near the door and the old mirror also from EBay but originally from Next. I love hanging things off the mirror so now I’ve decorated I’ve gone for oranges, greens and blue interspersed with other colours from the mix and match tiles. These green glass balloons remind of the glass ones in the shop windows in Murano, Venice. I loved them but knew I couldn’t fit them in my case or really afford them. Plus I knew these were up coming for the Asda Festive range so held of to buy these at £2 each! The green hummingbird is also a Christmas Dec but this time from Paperchase. I also have the Unicorn design that you may have seen in my tree at Christmas. The top shelves have various trinkets my Faux grass bunny from Paperchase, my Alpaca from George Home, a mini (empty) bottle of patrón and a pineapple tea light holder. Oh and how cute are my La Redoute Wall Hooks

Now the tiles are a bit cold and like I said we couldn’t afford to change all the carpet to tiles anyway, so when Darlings of Chelsea sent me a link to all the rugs they stock I was very excited as they had some runners just perfect for our space! I picked out the Diamond Design in Denim/White* (£155 for this runner size, prices from £59)  as I thought the blue and white would look great alongside the tiles and it does!

It’s an outdoor and indoor rug which means it’s easily cleaned, which is perfect for a runner in a high traffic area, and when you have a cat like our Herbie. It can be hosed, scrubbed and bleached if that’s what you need! Or you can just keep it clean with a regular vacuum if you don’t have a stubborn cat. Talking of cats my other cat Poppy loves it! She was straight on it using it like a catwalk (no pun, honest) how cute though?!

See she loves it, honest, her face is just always like that. We finished off the hallway with a dark wood plant stand (£79) and matching lantern(£25) from George Home at Asda to provide us with something to pop gloves, reusable bags and other bits and bobs that used to be dumped on the stairs before! The copper wire candle holder was a Christmas present and just finishes it off nicely.

This flooring combo is definitely my favourite in the house and really helps inject some colour into an area which I’d never even thought it needed until now.
